In January of 2022, I became a virtual editorial intern for Baltimore publication Bloc by Block News. When I had just started I was able to learn the beginners’ skills in a short period. I had a plethora of tasks weekly that I was assigned. One of my many tasks was to write articles based on fellow articles from other Baltimore publications selected by my superiors. After reading a said article written by another journalist based on an event that has taken place in Baltimore, I was to write a short article based on it. By doing so I answered questions readers wanted to know from the start of the article before even finishing. From that point on after edits were made and the necessary changes were completed on my behalf, my articles were published. Apart from writing weekly articles, I created graphics for Bloc by Block News social media platforms regarding published articles. I created captions for the said post which was a nice experience because that is a task I usually am intimated by. Frequently, I found events taking place in Baltimore and notified newsletter readers about the said event that they could attend. Even though this internship has ended I have learned a lot including adapting to a new environment.
