Review:
Prior to reading this book I have only read one Male/Male/Female, also known as MMF, duet titled The Anatomy of Jane and The Anatomy of Us by Amelia LeFay. The duet was amazing because I have never read a book with a dynamic of a relationship between two men and one woman. To make it clear they are all in a physical and emotional relationship together with the men being bisexual 😌. When I came upon American Queen by Sierra Simone, I was intrigued and wondered if it could live up to the previous book, I read with a relationship between three people. I read this book based on a recommendation from Bookstagram account lcsbookstagram ran by Leena & Logan. Since the book is a trilogy consisting of three books, I was happy to see a book where the story is able to prospers each time. With plenty of positive reviews I can agree that as the first book American Queen was decent.
When it first started, I was hesitant like normal with books based on the reviews. Most of the time even when the positives outweigh the negatives, I am not sure to read the book. It’s just a normal issue on my side of things. But, I have learned just because someone doesn’t like a book does not mean I will not enjoy it. Not to mention I had the recommendation from lcsbookstagram whose judgement I trust completely! I decided to read it and of course the first person I meet is Greer Galloway an orphan and granddaughter of a former Vice President who is now a professor. Growing up in the political world like a princess, Geer did witness ways in which people are greedy and evil with power. Though she never let such corrupt her and that is why I liked her. From the beginning to end Geer was sweet and down
to earth, but that is what hurt her at times. Not to mention she was gullible and timid which I am not always fond of in female characters. She was too emotional and wanted approval from everyone including her b***h cousin, Abilene. That is definitely a person I knew was going to be a problem from the beginning based on her jealousy of Geer though for some reason Geer never noticed it. Occasionally no matter how bad Abilene treated her, Geer always seeked her out even telling her secrets that can affect her and her lovers. The last straw for me is when Abilene even tried to sabotage Geer’s relationship.
As for Geer lovers they are not just average men they are the President and Vice Present of the United States, Maxen Ashley Colchester and Embry Moore. Can you talk about scandal? Both men are war hero’s and best friends with Maxen, also known as Ash, saving Embrey’s life at one point during a war. Geer has history with both men with her first kiss being with Ash when she first met him at the age of sixteen. That kind of through me off, but I am glad that Simone as an author did progress that relationship until Geer was legal. Overtime they meet again though Geer keeps in contact sending Ash letters while he is currently in war, but Ash never responds. Later they meet again, but Ash is engaged. That same night after Geer finds
out about Ash engagement, she meets someone and loses her virginity to him. That person is no one, but Embry f*****g Moore 😲. Before anyone judges her, you should know she did not know of the friendship or relationship between the two. Now she is in love with two men who are best friends. Though the book is not in chronological order we are able to keep up with the timelines which was satisfying.
It eventually stops at present day where Ash is a widow having lost his wife to cancer and Embry is a “playboy.” Geer and Ash are finally able to be in a relationship which I enjoyed, but to be honest I not always into dominate-submissive relationships. There is nothing wrong with a little sex involving a dominate and submissive. But, I don’t like that all the sex scenes were Ash being dominate of her and later on Embry. Maybe it’s because I always knew what to expect and nothing surprised me at all, but most of the sex scenes I skimmed or skipped all together. Her relationship with Ash was great to see though because even when married Ash was still in love with Geer. Though Geer and Ash were able to start their relationship there is still one person in the equation, Embry, who Geer believes Ash doesn’t know about in regard to them having sex. He actually does and is not mad at all because Embry and Ash are in love as well 😲. While in the war together they began their love affair that stopped when Ash became married, but was reestablished after his wife died. I was kind of surprised Geer didn’t see the sexual tension between the two men, but like I said she is sweet and ignores important signs. In the scene where Geer catches Ash and Embry kissing, I did consider that cheating though many might not. It was just behind her back and regardless of
if she was turned on by it that was still wrong, but hey it brought them closer together! I was surprised that Ash tried to have a public relationship with Embry multiple times even proposing to him more than once. Due to Embry telling Geer a different story and making it seem like Ash was in the wrong was kind of an a**hole move on his part. In the end they ended up together finally, but of course there has to be something that ends the “happily ever after” as Ash liked to put it. That was kind of naïve of him to ever believe that.
I am anticipating for the next book which is from Embry’s perspective with this book being from Geer’s. I am glad to see the story from another’s eyes which is great on Simone’s part.
This book was pretty good I did have my issues because I felt like certain scenes were a drag. Also, I didn’t really like the sex scenes, which is why I gave it a 3.5, they were hot and long, but repetitive at certain times to me. Not to mention I was not a fan of the incest reveal between Ash and his half-sister, Morgan. Though that evil wench knew, Ash didn’t know they were siblings because he was adopted at a young age. For a moment after reading this I was mentally transfixed back to watching Game of Thrones 🤣. But, the book was a good read with characters I liked and an amazing plot. Not to mention the different relationship displayed in the book that some will consider unusual. I am not going to be so engrossed and tough on the book because it is the first one in the trilogy of three. That is the reason I rated the book a 4! I am excited about the next book because I want to see multiple
storylines play out. Such has, how will things play out with the Carpathians president, Melwas Kocur’s? To add on, what will happen to Geer? Will Abilene cause even more issues? There is a lot of questions and can’t wait for them to be answered!
I recommend you read this book. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed, and you will have more books to read!
